Platteville - Remodel - Nest Architecture

The Problem:

The kitchen in this 1912 bungalow was the epitome of inefficient use of space. A closet encroached from the north and clunky radiators inhabited the rest.

The clients, a busy family of four, needed a more workable space for their culinary adventures and increased connection to the living area for their entertaining needs, not to mention the lack of a dishwasher!

Solutions:

With some clever closet reorganizing in the daughter’s bedroom (the beneficiary of a cozy reading nook), the design allowed for a more functional kitchen layout with workspace and storage maximized.

Removing a portion of the wall between the kitchen and the dining room allowed for bar height seating to coexist between the spaces, creating a place for the kids to have breakfast or guests a glass of wine while staying clear of the chef. Removing the tile floor and continuing the hardwood from dining room through to the sunroom unified the previously choppy rear of the house, creating a clean, sophisticated space that flows naturally.

Sometimes it’s the little things that make the project.
In this case the need for a dishwasher was the impetus, the catalyst
to an evolution in the way one family entertains, interacts and lives.
